Two Malaysian states not on the peninsula are Sarawak and Sabah; located on the northern tip of the island of Borneo they occupy land largely covered by rain forest, mangrove swamps, river and cave systems and unique fauna. Within Sarawak is Kuching, the home of Batang Ai Lake and the ideal way to visit and experience an Iban Longhouse.
Within Kinabalu National Park in Sabah lie hot springs, treks and canopy walks allowing the visitor to view nature from all angles. Accessible from Kota Kinabalu is Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, a picturesque marine reserve. For those interested in the ape inhabitants of Borneo, a visit to Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre is unmissable. The Danum Valley is also rich in wildlife and home to Sabah's lowland fauna. Borneo, a far cry from Malaysia's busy capital of Kuala Lumpur, is a fusion of natural beauties and for those interested in wildlife a 'must see'. |
