America's California and the West, one of the great things about the USA is the fine weather enjoyed year round by much of the country. While Florida has always been a winter favourite with the Americans themselves and California a popular residential choice for its equable climate, the whole range of southern states, from Arizona in the west to Georgia and Southern Carolina in the east, make splendid winter destinations, in addition to their spring and autumn appeal. In the area known as the Deep South - the states encircling Atlanta with such attractive cities as Savannah, Charleston, Memphis and Natchez - the handsome plantations and small towns are graced by lovely architecture and swamplands teeming with wildlife. The early blossoming peach and cherry is quickly followed by the azalea, succeeded in May and June by the magnolia, and later in the year by the camellia, so that by going there you can enjoy the feeling of spring in the middle of a British winter.

For the best year-round climate in the world - mostly sunny, with average 70°s in the San Diego and Los Angeles areas and 60°s in San Francisco - rich Americans have chosen California. Its fabled coastline, including 17-Mile Drive and the sinuously winding cliffside road around Big Sur is, in our opinion, an experience not to be missed. But many tours purporting to be ‘the best of the West' leave this feature out altogether. Our California and the Golden West - travelling inland through Arizona and Nevada to take in the Grand Canyon, glittering Las Vegas and stunning Yosemite Park - leaves out nothing. The lovely coastal mission town of Santa Barbara, Clint Eastwood's captivating seaside hideaway of Carmel (where he was once mayor), a whole day and evening multiple entry ticket to Disneyland®, utilising the courtesy bus from your hotel - all are included.
You can also enjoy the unparalleled Pacific oceanside on our California Sunshine Coast with Las Vegas and Palm Springs tour, starting in San Francisco and with stops at Carmel and Solvang on the way to Long Beach, before heading inland to Las Vegas. The combinations of Long Beach and Las Vegas and Las Vegas and San Diego are proving increasingly popular as winter season breaks. San Francisco is one of the world's most exciting places, its rollercoaster roads offering marvellous vistas over the city and the bay from the vantage point of one of its famous trams, and it has a great nightlife of theatre, music and clubs. We are pleased to include it in so many of our tours as well as featuring it as a popular holiday addition destination. Our Western Highlights holiday includes time to explore the fabulous cities of San Francisco and Las Vegas and includes the superb natural highlights of 17-Mile Drive and Yosemite National Park. Experience a Titan City Break holiday in Las Vegas which really gives you the time to see the best of this iconic city.
