Morocco conjures intriguing and colourful visions, yet with an extraordinary physical make-up, from its Mediterranean coast, through mountain ranges to the empty and vast desert of the Sahara, it is not easy to choose a distinct image to best portray this exotic land.
Located mainly in the southern valleys of the Atlas Mountains are the kasbahs of Morocco; vast fortified tribal villages usually fabulously decorated with geometric patterns. Ouarzazate, a useful base from which to visit such villages, was used as the setting for such films as ‘Gladiator'. Casablanca, made famous by Humphrey Bogart, is the principal city of Morocco. At the foot of the Atlas Mountains, a region of snow-capped peaks and green valleys, lies the oasis city of Marrakech. The initial beauty and attraction of the city exists in the location, but to best discover this lively and magical city, its numerous ancient mosques and world-famous souks with their profusion of aromas, a sense of adventure is advantageous. |
