New South Wales is the site of Captain Cook's original landing in Australia and today offers experiences and natural wonders from the vibrant heart of Sydney to the vast beauty of the Blue Mountains, the rolling vineyards of the stunning Hunter Valley and the coastal tranquillity of Port Stephens, with its crystal clear waters and pristine golden beaches.
A free spirited and vibrant city, Sydney is often regarded as the most beautiful in the world. Sydney's first settlement was on the rocky spur of land from which the famous Harbour Bridge now spans to the north shore. This area, known as the Rocks, has a charming blend of old and new, narrow cobbled streets where old wool-stores and historic buildings have been restored and converted into colonial style boutiques, museums, art galleries, waterfront restaurants and cafés. Close to Circular Quay is possibly Sydney's most famous landmark, the magnificent Opera House. Taking 14 years to build, it was opened in 1973 and quickly became the building most frequently associated with the city. |
