Strung like pearls along one of the most picturesque routes in the world, with mountains rising from the sea, the Charlevoix coastline offers a succession of valleys, plateaus and cliffs cut by streams and waterfalls.
The road twists and dips, descending dramatically to pass through Cornish-like fishing villages revealing a variety of vistas over the broad St. Lawrence Seaway. The Saguenay Fjord is where the humpback whale breeds in the summer, and this portion of the seaway at the confluence with the fjord attracts many other whales and marine species. It is here that we enjoy our whale watching cruise on a day's outing from Quebec The changing colours on the rolling hills, from the bloom of May and early June wild flowers to the blaze of autumn leaves in September and October, add to the festive feel of Quebec and its lovely city, as does the profusion of maple as we proceed south along the Chaudiere River. Among the highlights are Chute Montmorency and the Chaudiere Falls and further south the lovely hillside drive along the banks of Lake Megantic. |
